News from John King about John West:
Hi John
I popped in to see John West in hospital yesterday and was pleased to
see that he is improving albeit very slowly as he can walk a short distance
unaided. However he is still on oxygen and is quite frail having lost
over three stones in weight. He is expecting to be discharged to his home
this coming weekend as he is having an oxygen supply installed. When he
can venture outdoors he will need to carry a small oxygen cylinder around
with him so he still has a long way to go to regain some degree of strength
and mobility. Perhaps the best way to keep in touch with him in the future
initially is via his email address which he gave to me and I trust you
already have.
Cheers for now
John King

Sad News Mick Hardy, Plumbing inspector who worked at Ilkeston, Ripley and Raynesway passed away in his sleep on Saturday 27th July 2013! FUNERAL: 11.45am on Friday 16th August 2013 at Bramcote Crematorium.
UPDATE ON JOHN WEST: I've visited John on Mon 29th July2013 and the good news is that the growth on his liver was not cancerous and is repairing. However problems during the operation (a blood clot) and maybe a side effect of the anaesthetic has left him with severe breathing difficulties. He has additional oxygen, but this is being reduced and he is starting to walk again. Rehabilitation will be a long process, but in the last 2 weeks he has made real progress and as Ashley says - he is in good spirits.
Ashley Roe has written to me to say that John West (Jim to many!) is in hospital recovering from cancer surgery. Ashley has visited John in hospital and reports the following: "He is in good spirits, but my take on it is that he is still very ill. He is having problems breathing and he thinks it we be another few weeks before they can sort out how he will be able to cope in the future." Apparently John said that he would like others to know that he is in hospital and if any would like to visit him then he would be pleased to see them. He is in The London Road Community Hospital in Derby (used to be the DRI). Contact either me or Ashley for further details of ward and visiting times. I'm sure that we all wish John the best for the future and a speedy recovery.

December 2004
A Fantastic Christmas Edition!
Many thanks to Phillipa Sharpe, Becky Bosley, Peter Jarrett and Maurice Cass for donating the pictures.
As they cover numerous years, I have not yet filed them in the main Photo Album, but kept them in a separate section. Just click on the "New Photos Added December" button, above.
See Becky's photos of the Fun Day, and her take on the "Cheeky Girls" in the hockey team. Also what is Phillipa up to in the canteen kitchen?
Anyway I hope you find something to smile about.
Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
John Simpson
This months new pictures are all from 1985, so they can easily be found in folder 1985. A link is provided to this folder - see above.
Please note that for the time being I have kept the link to last months new photos, in case you missed looking at them.
Some of the photos will appear familiar, that is because they were previously in the 1980's folder as "Unknown Raynesway Do" or similar. I have now been able to date them as 1985 but I'm not sure whether the occasion is Mr Banham's leaving do, or his long service presentation. Anyway, any help from you on this matter or any of the "dk" names that you know, would be gratefully appreciated.
By the way, if you've seen them before, do have a second look at the "Banhams do" photos, as new ones (in colour) have been found, and all the Black and White ones, and more, have been re-scanned from the original negatives.
Thanks to every one that emailed me with corrections and suggestions for the don't knows, and hopefully I have updated all the changes.
Winner of last months competition is Mike MacDonald. (see Photo of the Month button above)
There is no competition this month as I cannot afford the fabulous prizes! However, there is a rather nice picture of Maurice Cass's head to keep you amused.
As always, I appreciate hearing from you, so send me an email, so that I know that you are looking at the site.
cheers John Simpson
October 2004
Hi
Thanks to the many who emailed me with names that I had temporarily forgotten.
My special thanks go to Mike MacDonald, who has found so many of the "dks".
The winner of the Photo of the Month caption competition is Dave Bond for his entry of: "Mirror mirror on the wall". Just what he meant I don't know!
This month, all the new photos have been supplied by Carol and Martin Perks. (thanks - the photos are great!)
All these photos have been put into chronological order. Check out folders, 1980s, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1988, 1989. 1991 and 1992.
Behind the scenes the web site has been split into three to enable for future expansion. The only effect you will notice is that photos are stored on three albums, instead of two. Folders are grouped as follows:
Hope you enjoy looking at Carol and Martin's pictures as much as I did.
best wishes John Simpson (1968 SDWB to 2000 STW)
