Bog Lane Melbourne
Bog Lane Reservoir at Melbourne
The blue brick chamber is the location of the borehole. It appears to still contain a submersible pump or at least the cable to supply it. Prior to a submersible pump it appears that compressed air was used to provide an air lift. How this worked is not clear in the records. The oil engine in the pump house certainly drove an air compressor and another belt looks to drive a water pump. Maybe the latter was used to pump water to Melbourne Common. Where the steel tube is, there is thought to have been an elevated tank. This was probably to remove air bubbles prior to entering the reservior by spilling over the vee notch which appears to be about the same level as the top of the reservoir.
