Basford Pumping Station
Bomb at Basford Pumping Station
A GRENADE and bullets have been found on the floor of the cooling pond at Basford pumping station, which has been drained for cleaning and repair work. Other finds include a knife and silver coins.

Discovery of the grenade by workmen was immediately reported to the city Water Department, and when Nottingham police were formed they arranged for the Army to collect it.

It was exploded on an Army training ground.

Mr. B. W. Davies, chief engineer of the water department, said the grenade may have been thrown into the pond by a soldier who had brought it on leave and then became afraid that it would explode.

The pond, which normally holds about 850,000 gallons of water, is being cleaned for the first time since 1935. It was found that there was an accumulation of six inches of mud on the bottom.
