This is known as The South Sump at Little Eaton Treatment works. I think it stored water from ithe infiltration tunnels prior to treatment. The infiltration tunnels ran parallel to the River Derwent. In 1959 Little Eaton Works was completely redesigned and this sump was retained to house some of the new processes with tanks and buildings constructed within it.
