The assumption is that the village originally took water either from the spring or from wells. On the 1875 map, the tank is not shown. However, on the 1898 map, there appears to be a tank near to the gate - possible fed by a spring, but on this 1955 map it shows shows a Spring and a tank and says 'Tank - Bakewell Rural District Council'.
